THE BEGINNING OF A DESTINY

Hi everyone, thank you for starting to follow my blog! It's pretty exciting as everything is coming together - Blog and Facebook fan page are finally on and my blog launch party / exhibition is around the corner.

Many good reasons to finally tell you a little bit about how everything started...

In the year 2005 a new chapter of my life was about to start as I moved to New York. Barely knowing the language or the culture I could only hope that this country would give me the chance one day to do what seemed to be impossible in my home country Peru - follow my passion for Fashion & Art and transform it into something where I can express my view of this world.

Coming here, you mainly hope for a better life in the sense that you have any perspectives at all.

I basically started of as a stock-boy in a retail fashion store, became a Sales-Associate and started assisting in Visual Merchandising. I really liked the visual part of my job as it reminded me of Art. Changing the store and making it look nice and not only neat gave me the chance to be creative. Eventually people started to like what I did and I became the visual merchandizer of one store first and later of a total of 7 stores. During that time I was constantly trying to reinventing myself in the sense of not being too boring with my windows and displays - but one is limited of course to a certain extend... Finally one day, a little Barbie doll became the reason of changing my life in retrospect :) My idea was, trying to re-create outfits of the clothing we were offering in the store and Display them.

People started to love my "muses" and even wanted to buy them! I originally thought they were crazy, but it somehow encouraged me on going on....

I think it was during fashion week, after seeing my very first fashion show that I became more and more obsessed with fashion and everything that comes around it - I would have never thought that I would be sitting at a Fashion Show in NY one day!

Shortly after I decided on trying to replicate some of the my favorite runway pieces of my favorite Designers. I was excited to see if I would be able to do them justice and finally got to work.

After all, I felt I was becoming better with every doll I did and loved to see the final results with each new doll coming up. Up to the point in 2009 when my favorite Designer Alexander McQueen created this outstanding and in my opinion EPIC Fashion Show with his Spring / Summer 2010 collection. The moment I saw this collection I was blown away. The details, the shoes, make-up, hair, just the whole scenery was incredible.

For those who have been following McQueen know that he was known for mixing technology with its fashion. It was his idea of creating something futuristic and expressing his idea of how people might be living on water in the future by creating a Fish and Alien inspired make-up and expressed this in his close as well. It's really an evolutional statement starting in the here and now and the transition into the far future.

This video basically explains it all...

Ironically shortly after, one of the most creative people on this planet died. I couldn't believe it as he really inspired me in so many ways. I immediately decided to create a tribute to the amazing Alexander McQueen by creating a doll with a hand-painted dress including the Armadillo shoes and its distinctive styling.

I really hope you like my muses and their outfits and enjoyed the trip with me to memory lane. Some of these dolls and some new ones will be available for public at my blog launch / exhibition Friday, June 1st at 4 Saint Paul's Cafe on Staten Island from 7:30 - midnight.

I will be showing not only my little muses, but also my fashion pieces along with some jewelry items I create. For those who won't be able to attend or who would like to see more of what I do will have the opportunity at a second party Friday, June 29th. Place and time will be the same - for more details stay tuned!
